Our Work

Insight Net was established in 2023 to improve modeling and analytical capacity within health departments across the nation and to upskill the infectious disease-focused workforce.

It consists of 13 primary partners funded through the Center for Forecasting and Outbreak Analyticsโ€™ (CFA) Centers for Outbreak Analytics and Disease Modeling cooperative agreement. This group collaborates with more than 100 additional state, local, private, public, tribal, and academic partners across 30 states, Puerto Rico, and Guam.

Insight Net focuses on training, tool development, and improving the analysis and application of data related to infectious disease spread. Insight Net is organized into three center types: Innovators, Integrators, and Implementers. These groups develop, test, and implement innovative outbreak analytic solutions for the CDC, health departments, and other decision-makers nationwide.

Insight Net is committed to transforming the country’s analytical capabilities in managing infectious disease outbreaks by integrating tools such as machine learning and artificial intelligence with the best available technologies and academic research. The partners work closely with state, tribal, local, and territorial (STLT) public health leaders to understand the specific needs of their jurisdictions and utilize infectious disease outbreak data to inform critical, life-saving decisions during public health emergencies.

The tools and methods developed by Insight Net will help anticipate infectious disease outbreaks, enabling public health leaders to make informed decisions and take action to protect their communities during public health emergencies.

Working Groups

Insight Net organizes and facilitates in-network Working Groups to foster collaboration across Center networks, consolidate overlapping foci, and enable Insight Net outcomes. Current Working Groups include those focusing on Machine Learning, Social Contact Survey, Data Standards, Training, Wastewater Surveillance, and Modeling Guidance for Public Health Partners.

Innovators develop advanced methods and tools, focusing on cutting-edge research and the training of the next generation of specialists in infectious disease modeling and analytics.

Implementers focus on scaling up outbreak response tools, supporting decision-makers, and training public health professionals in the use of forecasting tools.

Integrators focus on adapting advanced tools for real-world use, integrating them into public health systems, and supporting rapid data collection and analysis.
